Dad's Day Events

Welcome to the Kappa Alpha Order -- Beta Eta Chapter Dad's Day (and Parents Weekend) Information Center. Here you will find information specific to the Kappa Alpha Order activities for the upcoming weekend.

The University of Oklahoma is planning lots of fun activities (link opens in new window) for the entire campus. Be sure to visit their site for more information. We hope our activities compliment theirs so that you can have the most fun with your son over the upcoming weekend.

We have the following events planned for Saturday, November 14th (subject to change):

  • Photograph with the members and parents at the house at 11:30 a.m.
  • Lunch provided by the members at 12:15 p.m.
  • Parents Club Meeting at 1:00 p.m.
    • Discussions Regarding House Purchases
    • Elections and Miscellaneous Activities
    • Collection of Parent's Club dues.
  • Silent Auction Fundraiser ends at 2:00 p.m.
Fundraiser and Dues

As we do every Spring and Fall, we will have a Silent Auction featuring baskets assembled by the parents and bid upon by both members and their parents. While all sorts of baskets are well received, the most popular baskets feature Kappa Alpha Order items and University of Oklahoma items.

Be sure to bring a basket and bid on those present.

In addition, we collect at the Fall Fundraiser a $25 Parent's Club fee that goes toward the purchase of an item (or items) for the house. Past purchases have included a hot table for the dinner line and a new stove.

Old Business / Books

As of 02 November 2009, the books for the Parent's Club stands as follows:

Note that subsequent years will most probably show only updates from the Fall Fund Raiser. If anyone is interested in the spreadsheet itself (instead of my transcription), please let me know at the upcoming Parent's meeting. I will email you the spreadsheet as desired.

New Business

Purchases for the House

Matt Carpenter (the KA President), my son (David Schones -- another officer) and myself have been in discussions regarding the money we currently have in the Parent's Club account and what the house needs. Rather than commit to the members the funds we have available (and the funds we have available after the major Fall Fundraiser), I would like to discuss what the parents would be interested in purchasing for the house. We will, of course, take into account the wishes of the officers and members, but it would be nice to see what the parents would like as well. As you walk through the house and talk to your son, please keep an eye as to what is needed.

Some ideas already put forth include nice dining tables and chandeliers for the entryway.

Elections

With the upcoming election for the Parent's Club, I would like to suggest the following:

  • The Parent's Club President should be chosen from a parent whose son is a KA member with class standing is Junior or earlier.
  • The Parent's Club Vice-President should be chosen from a parent whose son is a KA member with a class standing of Sophomore or earlier.
  • Although not bound by rules, the convention should be that the Vice President will succeed the President in the following year.

This allows the Vice-President to understand more fully the duties of the President and also allows the President to finish out his or her term while their son is still an active member of the house. Of course, feel free to modify this convention as you desire.

Having said that, I must look upon the upcoming graduation of my son this coming May. As a proud alumni of the Kappa Alpha Order and of this chapter in particular, I have no wish for the Parent's Club to wither. I think Kelley had a fantastic idea with her original proposal of the club. I would elated for my future grandson (God willing) to some day come back to this chapter and find a Parent's Club that is as supportive as you have all been in the past.

I have no desire to "overstay my welcome" as an officer of the Parent's Club. But neither do I have any desire to see the club die with the "roll-out" of the original officers. So I propose the following, with the consent at the upcoming elections:

  • As I am the "Registered Agent" for the corporation of Kappa Alpha Order Parent's Club, I will continue to receive the bank statements from InTrust Bank and will forward them on to the current Treasurer (or President) of the Club. I will also turn over to the Treasurer (or President) the checks to the account and arrange for their signature to be on the account. Both of these will allow some continuity regarding Secretary of State for the state of Oklahoma and for the bank account.
  • Three parents will step forward to act as President, Vice-President and Treasurer of the Parent's Club. I act as mentor these individuals as to the fundraising events and people involved in the Beta Eta chapter.
  • I will continue my involvement in the Parent's Club as the "Registered Agent" for the corporation and as an active alumni of the Beta Eta chapter.

I look forward to an great upcoming Dad's Day weekend and having some wonderful times with our sons and fellow Parent's Club members.

House Photo Parents Weekend

As the first fraternity at the University of Oklahoma, and the oldest Greek organization in the entire state of Oklahoma, welcome to the KA Beta Eta Chapter website.  While the website is still a work in progress, we hope that you can find everything that you are looking for.

New Students interested in rush should refer to the Rush section of the website, or can also go to the KA Summer Rush Facebook Group.

Eventually the website will include a forum section where brothers can chat and alumni can reconnect and seek a more active role in assisting the chapter.  Keep posted for updates!
